Any Gold Proscpector's Around?

Hi guys,

When not bushwalking (or working ) I love to prospect. I have been doing it for the past 20 years on and off and was just wondering if there are any more keen prospector's on this forum? I've only been doing it in WA, as I know the areas well...but would love to explore other states too. Love to hear stories from those who share this passion.

Hey Sue. Yeah I also prospect often. I tend to have a small finishing pan on many trips. (doubles as my bowl for brekkie and dinner )

Ill dig up some of my prospecting stories when I have a chance. Will need to hear some of your stories as well.

Ha yeah, me too, iv'e not really mentioned it on here but very similar. I think it was a background thing, felt I needed an excuse to spend time bushwalking, made it a job. A good friend was into prospecting so we ended up heading to the WA goldfields every winter for 5/6 yrs and 4/5mths each time. Just another excuse to walk around enjoying the bush with the feeling of at least making progress... Outback WA is fascinating, stark, harsh, subtle, beautiful. Even saltbush flats and salt lakes or further north around the Pilbra, nowhere near a National Park, places that most people would just drive past.

I've seen a few bits out of WA to write home about! All detected though. I do prefer a pick and pan myself-old school.

I grew up traveling WA with mum (a botanical/wildlife artist, did a book on the WA Eastern Goldfields) and dad who did a lot of prospecting, with some success!

I was always more interested in exploring the old, collapsing mine sites than actual prospecting, but still managed to swing a deepseeker and groundhog a few tens of millions of times.

We do alot of panning , we always find enough to keep us interested, but not enough to pay for the alcohol we drink while looking !LOL We mainly go in the Thomson and Aberfieldy rivers in Victoria.

Great to see there are a few of us

I've never found anything huge ...and mainly pick up a couple of ounces here and there - I have a Minelab 2100. I guess if I had more time on my hands, I'd get out there more ...and no doubt, find more This passion goes hand in hand with the love I have for the greater outdoors ...and it's something which bonds my dad and I, so I get to spend precious time with him too.

North East of WA is my stomping ground (not too far though) ...anywhere between 6 - 9 hours drive from Perth.

The minelab detectors seem to have brought on yet another gold rush. It wasn't too busy before the gold price went skywards though last year there were people everywhere. New Chums We met a group near one of our old patches, they had somehow heard a rumor that so and so had struck it rich there once, found X kilo's of nuggets.. as the story went on, despite now being described taller, smarter (and much richer) we realised they were actually talking about us

In the first year we went from Noresman to Whim Ck and some of the desert country to the east would be awesome. Tough country though. I probably prefer further south, even around Kal is a great escape from mid Tassie winter.
