I have seen a red belly black swimming around in a pool hunting young trout in Christies Creek which had largely stopped flowing.

Not that surprising really. The most common location for red bellies is around creeks.

Many years ago I watched two red-bellied blacks swimming in a waterhole near Moruya. Felt like they were playing for about 20 minutes before they slithered off. Maybe a mating ritual?
