Cheap wood/pottery plates, bowls, goblets, tankards?

Tue 26 Oct, 2010 11:37 am

Does anyone know where to get cheap wooden or pottery crockery? Most of the places that sell this stuff are craft dealers, and so it is quite expensive. I have a need for them such that they may only get used once, and then given away or otherwise disposed of, so I only want very cheap stuff.

I really want between 10 and 30 of each of:
  • plates and/or bowls
  • wine goblets
  • beer tankards/steins

If anyone has any idea where I might get something like this very cheap, please let me know. (Or if you have a lathe or pottery wheel and can whip something up quickly, I can pay a little bit for them).

I would prefer wood, but rough pottery would also be good (not modern ceramics though!). Needs to look old style.

PS. Pewter would also be really cool, but is generally more expensive.

Do they all have to match..??

If not I would head to the various tip shops, if you but bulk they'll do you a deal - we often use this method to get cheap props for shoots that need that retro feel.

Good idea SBS. No there's no need for them to match.

PS. ah bummer... the tip shop in Launceston (EcoSalv) appears to no longer exist. :-(

Bummer indeed, we've got so much junk here in Hobart

I get all my building materials pretty much from Mornington or Sth Hobart, they've got heaps of bric-a-brac too, Glenorchy is good as well but a bit pricey. Has to be something up Nth....
