Kathmandu also plans to open about 15 new stores a year in Australia and New Zealand, taking its total footprint to more than 170,

Rhodes scholar and ex all black captain , hated by pretty much the entire team...
he was hussled out of the Fairfax media group in a hurry, no details on why,
probably just looks at kathmandu as a cash cow for his expensive lifestyle...

it's funny reading articles like this because the senior management, investors and financial press are all swanning around kathmandu like they invented a money tree. but to me, it all seems a bit silly and ignorant. their products look nice, and their stores look nice, and their marketing is slick, but their products suck and they won't be able to continue asking high prices for products that suck. i think they are running on a sugar high and it'll rapidly slow down soon. i suspect the analysts would get a surprise if they took time to research the product categories they are selling into, and whether their products are good enough to continue earning the sort of margins they are getting now.

I have three jackets. First one I bought was a Mountain Warehouse. I then had the opportunity to get myself one from The North Face drastically underpriced. That one I want to keep in excellent condition and won't wear it on a tough hike until I go overseas. I saw a jacket from Kathmandu on sale, and thought why not as is had to be better than MW. I can bash around wherever I like with confidence, I thought. I found that my $120 MW jacket is more of an asset than the $400 Kathmandu. One of the more regrettable purchases I have made. Bitter I didn't buy those TNF pants I'd been eyeing instead.
