Moreton Island fatbike video

I had a weekend of filming planned over on Moreton Island, to make a short clip similar to what I used to make many years ago when working in video production. This clip reminded me of the reason I followed that profession in the first place - the feeling you get when you blend great shots, tasteful editing, a matching soundtrack and a lot of heart.

That Surly Moonlander looks a seriously sweet bike and perfectly suited to the conditions. What pressure were you running in the tyres?

I saw two of these bikes on Fraser Island, the first time I've ever seen one or known they existed. Very impressive.

Good stuff Troy, excellent video work. Looks like you had a great time. Those fatbikes are nuts and look like they could tackle anything! Reminds me I've been neglecting the MTB recently, will have to correct that soon.

Glad you enjoyed it.
I run around 7-10psi in the tyres, any less and it just slows you down with no extra flotation. On previous trips (on the blog) I also had a kiddy seat up front for our daughter, even with her on board 7psi is plenty - tyre is 5 inches wide. I've also built her a customised tagalong with rack and panniers.
These bikes have been popular in the US/AK for many years, only just seeing them in Australia, sand islands/regions/deserts are well suited for these. Bike becomes the pack mule.
Philip, you may have seen a mate of mine with his partner, recently did a week on Fraser.
I'll be heading over to AK for a training camp on the Iditarod in January, to truly learn about extreme temp camping/travel on a fatbike - a world away from the warm, sunny islands of QLD...

Yep, that would be them. I just completed a one week hike on the great walk, waiting for a taxi, when they turned up, i couldn't believe my eyes when i saw these bikes. I had a good chat to them and offered some advice for the northern section of the island. How did they go with that? Did they make it to the top, where the lighthouse is?
