What to do in New Zealand

New Zealand is a great country for walking and I'll be walking (quite a hard walk) in the south island in February 2013. After the walk I have another week in New Zeland. If my legs still function, after all the climbing required from the walk, I'm wandering how to fill in my time. Maybe sampling all the lovely Maryborough wines or another (much easier) walk. Any suggestions?

If you're planning to be in Marlborough, how about the Queen Charlotte Track?

Definitely hire a kayak and spend a day out on the Sounds! It's great out there.

well i've only ever met two tasmanians in NZ so can't say that theres too many of them over here 8)
but if yo're in any tramping hut over here in summer you'd be forgiven for thinking you were still in aus from the no of aussies.... esp in the last few years.... and some of the great walks are now being booked out months in advance , partly from the increase in aussies, i'd book the routeburn in sept no prob. but this year i nearly missed out....

You'll bump into 10 Germans for every Aussie you meet!

Apparently they go there instead of Australia because they're scared of our wildlife (namely snakes).
