Put this in wrong place. Try again.

Not sure what you call these things, but I don't remember seeing so many of them as this year.
This tree is loaded, like apples.

Last year the Black Cockatoos had a feast and spread stuff all over the place.
This year was a spectacular one for Wattles here (Silver) and the seed pods have been heavy and very colorful also.
I see these have small insects and in this case a grub.

Any ideas what causes them?

Have a look here: http://www.treeworld.info/f29/wattle-gall-fungal-rust-7475.html . Looks a lot like what you found.

Cheers,
Michael.

Thanks Michael
Interesting reading.
Looks like I'm currently playing my part in hosting some of natures little marvels and a promise of some toasty nights by the fire. (tomorrows firewood supply)

No wonder the Black Cockies love the place.
