Old one act play Help finding the Author

My brother is trying to find a copy of this old late 19th century one act play called "The Hole in the Road" an interaction between a working man in a deep hole and a wealthy Gentleman walking by
Any help would be appreciated
I remember this play well from school but I don't think I ever knew the name of the author

I think the correct name is "The 'ole in the road". Possibly without the apostrophe.
It was in a book of plays we had at school, but I don't think I have a copy any more (that was over 50 years ago) and I have no idea what the name of the book of plays was called.
