Tasmania, no posts

I can’t post on Tasmania forum?
And it says no post?

Interesting. Yesterday, "New Posts" told me you had posted in Helicopter Rescues, but the post wasn't there when I looked.

Yes I noticed that as well and wondered what happened.

I've had this issue for six months, with a Western Arthurs thread. Forum insists there's an unread post made by lefroy on 2nd May, but no such post appears on the thread. It's starting to get annoying.

No Posts in Tasmania forum again

It's not just Tasmania. Same thing has just happened to BigKev in the bushwalking discussion. I've (hopefully) reported the problem to the admins.

Says I have posted in the Helicopter Rescue, but no post (Mt Claude man missing)

When I click the little icon to take to last post it takes me to the first
Been doing that for at least a week now

Thanks all, I am not able to reproduce this issue sorry.
Can you include a screen shot (of as much of the screen as possible) when it happens next, that will help me to better understand.
thanks
Matt :)

Happens to me too on Helicopter Rescues in Tasmania as well as BigKev Interview. It has been like this for a week or so.

Hovering over 'view new posts shows the correct URL, the incorrect number of posts, and (presumably) the correct last post date.
BK2.jpg

Clicking arrives at the correct URL (because there is only one page containing 3 posts), but shows only 2 of the posts.
The url bar shows viewtopic.php?f=5&t=41890&view=unread#unread
BK1.jpg

Clicking on Helicopter Rescues in Tasmania has the same symptons, except that Page 1 is shown, presumably because it cannot find the 1004th post and defaults to the first post.

The result is that those 2 threads (tantalisingly) stay on my View Unread Posts page forever.

Okay -- Thanks Keithj -- very helpful.
*Unread messages*
I think I found the issues with the 'unread' post (I think). Keithj basically had the right idea -- well done. It seems to happen if someone makes a post and then deletes it (and no one posts again). The thread tracks the deleted posts time and the most recent existing post time, but since there is no post matching the deleted post time, it never gets marked as read. If my theory is correct, then once you visit BigKev and Tassie Helicopter threads (the last page), they should be marked as read (if they are not now). But the extra post count number will still exist, I think I will let that one stay for now.

*No Posts*
But the original post here was about "no posts" found. We had a big spike in robot traffic last month and this month, where the database was overwhelmed. I don't think it was a denial of service attack; it was only a few hundred requests a second, but it was done in a way that was database intensive. So, my best guess is that might have been associated with that. But if you can let me know if it happens again, with a screenshot and time, then I can look into the logs and get a better sense.

Thanks again -- really appreciate your continued support in letting me know the issues.

Matt :)

Nope.

As I said, I've had that issue for the last six months and no matter how many times I click on the thread - even go through every page of it - it still marks it as having an unread post.

okay, sorry, I missed that you were having an issue with a different thread; I skim-read the thread too quickly - my bad.
Can you send me a link to which "Western Arthurs" thread, and ideally a screenshot of your unread page (feel free to email me if you prefer), just in case I can spot something there too? I tried to detect other threads with the same issue, but maybe I am still missing part of this puzzle.
Thanks
Matt :)

It's this thread: https://bushwalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=41290&start=60

This is the main index page:
BWF-MI.jpeg

This is the Tasmania index page:
BWF TI.jpeg

And this is the last post showing on the thread:
BWF WAT.jpeg

And the same thing is happening on that recent thread about BigKev, as well.

Thanks NNW -- that is helpful.
It seems similar to the issue with Keith; the last post date for the thread was set a few days after the last post (I think this happens when the last post is deleted (or was a spammy post that is not approved), and no one posts again after).
Anyway, I have updated the thread in the database and migrated it. My fingers are crossed that this solves the issue for you.

Is anyone else seeing this issue now? (if there are more examples, I can look at them, too)
Thanks
Matt :)

OK, I just did filler posts on two of the three affected threads (someone else has posted on the other, which is what gave me the idea) and it's fixed the problem for me. If everyone checks the last post on thsoe threads it should clear on their systems as well (I hope).
