TIP: The online
Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

This an interesting video on footprints and if they are warranted.

A) It is all a personal preference: I suggest the term 'proof' is meaningless here.
B) I have never used one.

I have and do at times use a footprint - but not for “protection” from sharps per se, just extra “protection” from muck/mud - eg if needing to pitch in a muddy area, for example in an area often used. I do it to help keep the tent floor cleaner (just a convenience not essential, I could use a cloth but I find this easier). So my footprint as such is just a multix extra large council bin bag cut open (the plastic is cheap and light but lasts a good few trips for this use).
Edit: p.s. I fold the dirty floor so dirty side in and stuff it in a large freezer bag which I stuff in the pouch on the back of the pack - very little weight and also a cheap and easy way to keep gear cleaner.

Did the full length of Larapinta with a silnylon UL tent, without a footprint. No trouble.

A tent is overkill for Larapinta Roger. People will think you are getting soft.

Oh, I got soft a long time ago.
