TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Good to hear about your experience with this tent after a long time (and presumably a lot of use). That reminds me... must be time for an update...

My Goondie 1-15D (from the OP of this topic) is still going strong. But I've not been out walking as much as I would like to over the past ~8 years (life and family choices). I've only been using it for maybe 3 trips per year (for ~3 nights each trip) over the past ~8 years. One of the poles is a bit bent after some strong wind camping on a mountain summit, but not so much that it causes any problems. I've had no other problems with it at all as the rest of the tent is still in as-new condition.

I'm still loving this tent after 13 years! :-) When I get it set up and have my gear all unpacked into it, it feels like my home away from home. I love that feeling.

I've used this tent maybe around 100 nights. It's been in cold down to -10C, and down to -5 many times, iced up and stiff, rained on in biblical deluges and maybe 5 days of UV in KNP.

WE have a video on how to straighten a bent pole.

You have the Silicon fly, but do carefully check the fly tapes and fabric for tears before your next trip. Just saying.

OP setup the new Goondie 1 tent and let me get in. The extra 50mm width is useful.
But I'm holding off forking out the $ until the Silicon 15-D fly (same age but nearly unused and looks in great shape) gets significant wear.
How does the 15-D fly handle snow and ice encrustation?

I haven't had a lot of ice on it (have been using my Olympus on last few icy trips due to sharing the tent). It handled fairly significant snow just fine. But I wouldn't call it encrustation on those events, as it just slid off nicely (with a small pile on the small flattish area at the top).

I've got an old Olympus as well. Seam sealed it on the inside 12 years ago for a snow camp. They are bomber and just won't die. Just too heavy. Great car camp tent when expecting biblical deluges.

Just took the 15D silicon fly out for it's first snow camp and rainfall/light snow. Had a great night, warm at 0deg. Feels colder than the 30D fly. Some light rain after I got out and had breakfast in hut. Ended up with a small puddle of water on the floor under the pillow area. Noticed this when packing up. Amazingly nothing got wet. Bathtub floor, seam sealed on Saturday, looks OK on first inspection with a torch. Not sure of the source but the fly is now a suspect that will need investigation as well. I think I will need to set it up and hose it down. Any ideas on tracking tent leaks?

The only water I've seen get into mine has been from dripping off the fly above the door while the doors are both open.

Yes, if it was drizzling then some might get in that way. The floor was a bit damp from 1/2 way up to the puddle and the puddle was up at the head where I had sealed waterproof bags of warm clothing.
The only things that changed that might explain it are the new fly and the Hoser bladder was inside this time. I'm going for that.
Inspection at home has not revealed any tears or holes in fly or inner.

I’ve had a Goondie 2 with 30D fly for 5 years now and is basically still as new except for a little fading of the fly,I’ve spent easily 150+ nights in this tent.
Recently bought another Goondie2 with mesh inner and 10D fly so I can mix and match for different seasons.Have found the mesh inner and 30D fly is a good combo in Tassie for most trips I do.
I always use a tyvek ground sheet and hang them in my shed for a couple of days to dry/air out after a hike, then loosely fold and store in a cupboard.Im confident this two tent combo will see me out my hiking life.

Hi LostSoul. Yes, 5 years is not long. I reckon 10 years is about the lifetime of the tapes. Make sure your shed has good airflow and low humidity. The tapes on my 12 year old Goondie 1 are detaching along the edges and in some places across the width of tape. Always dried it after every trip in a warm lounge room but I do store in stuff sacks - that could be the cause. A less used Goondie 2 (fly and bathtub floor) and the spare 15D silnylon fly still have good tapes at 12 years. I suggest Seam Grip on stitching on the Sil/PU polyester fly and the bathtub floor. Use silicon sealer for the silnylon fly. Even though they are taped. I did the top side of the Goondie 1 Sil/PU polyester fly and under the floor and it is still good. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it is a 7D sil nlyon fly now (down from 15D)
