TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

They were very unhappy that their setup was questioned. Indeed, they seemed very unhappy that anyone would want to get past them down to the lake.

Yes, there were several very much more appropriate places for them to hang.

That's a ridiculous set up SBS. Another reason to always have a nice sharp Leatherman on hand

I agree it does look quite intrusive.

No one would really cut their lines would they?

That is not a great a setup. Often the beauty of hammock camping is you can get away from the main areas and camp quite unobtrusively - depending on the area.

I just saw another hammock setup in the campground at Quamby Corner this morning.

Agreed. As someone who hammocks that is the most rediculous setup I've seen. Hammockers should take the same consideration as any tent camper too. Don't hang them on a tree that is easily damaged, same as you dont pitch a tent on easily damaged plants/flora etc. I always carry a lightweight floor when hammocking. That way the tarp can be pitched on the ground and the hammock can easily be the bug net protection. I also have a tiny cuben bivy which lives in my pack so its there for backup whether hammock n tarp or tent (or day walking).

I would really love to get into hammock camping. I love hammocks and sleep in one often at home when the weather is nice. I haven't bit the bullet and bought a camping hammock because I am concerned about the availability of suitable trees. I don't get out very often due to a bad back, so I haven't taken the time to find out if victorian trails are well suited to hammocks. I'll figure it out eventually
