Inexpensive 2 man tent for my kids

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Inexpensive 2 man tent for my kids

Wanderer Refuge hiking tent.
1.7 kg, 2 man tent from BCF. $99
It's double skinned (fly and inner), has a bathtub floor, and 2 (small) vestibules
I saw this a few days ago and was considering it for one of my kids for scouting - our other scout proof 2 person dome tent is too heavy and seems to have misplaced it's fly somewhere along the way (the scouts split the bits between them, and it can sometimes be a challenge to get all the parts reunited again)

Has anyone tried it?

We can learn a lot from crayons. They come in different shapes and colours, but they all have to live in the same box

Should I be scared to ask the weight?

1.7 kg

I'd probably reguy it and swap in lighter pegs, maybe a lighter stuff sack (the generic house brands always have really clunky toggles and cords). Though maybe that's a good thing for kids.....

It looks good for the cost. Be interesting to see how much rain it could hold off.

Well daughter has nodded at me, so I'll tootle off on Monday when I have a day off and purchase one. She's leading a scout trip down to Starlights (our 'local' overnighter dropdown in the Nattai) in the school holidays so it can have it's maiden voyage there. if it doesn't rain overnight then I'll do the rain dance with the sprinkler and see how it fares.
Report shall be forthcoming in the near future.

She's a happychic atm - she scored a new day pack - pink Osprey Kyte 36L women's daypack (I'm a bit jealous - it looks great) , and a purple and lime Montane Prism synthetic jacket for damper stuff (on sale for 104 from Mainpeak), as well as a Mont Bell Light Alpine down jacket to wear under her shell. Now we just need to upgrade her heavy(ish) winter synthetic sleeping bag for a lighter down one and she's set for her winter adventures. Almost-16 year olds are expensive :)

Great to hear of almost 16 year olds interested in the outdoors instead of the endless facebook and text messaging.

Oh, believe me, she does that too! A couple of her Skype friends are in Venturers with her though, so maybe they are texting gear lists and hiking routes.....(not)

My eyes hurt just reading about it. Perfect colour coordination is going too far, but so is that ^ in the opposite direction.

Any chance of a follow up on how it fared? Looks the goods for the two kids at that price and 1.7kg.
