TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Bronze Moon Outdoors warning!

Hi guys,

Not sure where to post this but just wanted to say beware when considering buying from Bronze Moon Outdoors. I ordered an Opinel knife off them weeks ago that was listed as in stock and when I questioned the delay they curtly referred me to their T&Cs which say that they will only offer a refund on out of stock items after 6 weeks. Well, this seemed pretty crap to me so I went on Google and sure enough lots of other people have had similar or worse experiences. Their average rating on Product Review and Google is 1.5 and 1.6 out of 5. I have asked to cancel the order and we'll see how it goes. If they process the cancellation quickly and without fuss I will edit this post to reflect that.

They are dropshippers.

If you have a complaint report them to the Office of Fair Trading in Qld http://www.fairtrading.qld.gov.au/marketplace/make-a-complaint They trade under Anglo Pacific Trading (Aust) and you can look up their ABN to find out who owns the company http://www.abr.business.gov.au/Index.aspx

These guys are well known for being bad operators. A search of these forums will reveal a bit.

Yes, I can confirm they're one of the worst online operators I've ever dealt with.
All I wanted was half a dozen titanium tent pegs and it took them over two months to send them.
They're well and truly on my 'never buy from again' list.

Had the same BAD experience with them about 6 months ago and only learned of their poor reputation after I made the purchase. Tried to buy an Opinel Outdoor no 8 and, of course it did not turn up. Tried every threat in the book to no avail - even called Tawonga Imports who are the agents for Opinel in Australia and suggested the brand was being misrepresented by Bronze Moon. They were not all that interested.

Because it was only 40 buck I decided to give up and bout the same knife for the same price from the local disposal store. About 6 weeks later the knife turns up from Bronze Moon! So know I have 2!!

Crap service but at least I was not ripped off.

I agree with the above, I ordered a hydration system. (Paid for it too) waited waited, contacted them only to be told that they were waiting for a shipment. In other words they are selling stuff that haven't got. The product did arrive after 2 months

If these guys offer paypal payment method use it, is easy to get a refund through paypal in these kind of situations. These days I wouldn't deal with anyone that doesn't offer it as a payment method.
Just keep putting one in front if the other.

Just as an fyi..both their AU and UK sites are hosted in Singapore so (possibly) not even based in Australia.

It is a global world, LandSailor. Most Australian corporates would have some or all of their operations based overseas too.

Of course, just nice to know where you are buying from and if the vendor is pretending to be AU based. Its just less hassle to buy locally if the price is reasonable.

Pretty sure the peanut I was dealing with was an Aussie. From what I could gather it is a Australian family business based in Cairns.

When I spoke with the Australian based Opinel agent he suggested he never had any problems with them and that they always paid their bills.

I think it is more a case that they over promise and under deliver. Advertising stock they do not have for delivery in times they cannot meet.

As I mentioned, I eventually got my knife but it took 6 weeks so it would be harsh for me to call them pirates - rather just incompetent and misleading.

From the extensive statements on their websites about delivery times & their rights in situations of "backorders" they appear to be dropshippers (as I think someone already mentioned) when you place an order with them, they place an order on an overseas supplier who ships direct to you. (no stock held locally). You may as well order direct from overseas yourself as then you can at least choose someone who has it in stock.

You can be an aussie company and do business here, but have offshore hosting. It's about 1/4 or less of the price of AU hosting. The thing I'd be looking for is an Au phone number. D

Why wouldn't they? By the sounds of it they receive payment from customers sometimes months before their invoice from the supplier!

Well sometimes it works the other way. A business that cannot get stock in to deliver because they are on credit hold with their suppliers. It is suavely a sign of a poorly managed business the characteristics of which Bronze Moon displays.

I cannot understand why they would put their business reputation at such risk. The amount of negative comments about them on the net and yet they persist in their old habits.

It could well be that they don't pay their bills on time and get put on "stop-supply" from their suppliers (does sound likely for the comments I've read here). But, it could also be that their suppliers have certain terms that must be met to have an account (i.e. annual turnover, minimum order values and quantities, a certain amount of favourable business credit references, etc) which for some reason they couldn't meet and are thus on a CBD (cash before delivery) account. New businesses (especially the internet based ones) are often put on CBD until they can prove their reliability to the suppliers. With so many options available in the outdoor industry I can see that there is no way this would work. Either way I'll be avoiding them

This company does not deliver. Their policy on shipping orders (6 weeks) is outside the time period banks generally provide for 'charge-back' (reversal of credit card payments) of 30 days. Difficult to get a refund,There is no phone number provided to call them and they stop answering emails and web queries when things go bad. DO NOT deal with them.
