The title really says it all, I am a hiker looking to ask about gear for an overnight hike, but I'll give some more detail. I am prepping to do several half-day and full-day hikes over the next few months and then moving into some overnight hikes. Mostly I'll be hiking in the Blue Mountains.
I am pretty experienced in the outdoors. I've done a lot of hunting and spent a lot of time outside, likewise over the last 6 months I've done a few small (4-5 hour) hikes.
My question is pretty simple, what are the must-have items for an overnight hike? I want to keep my kit minimal and I'll list below what I already have in it. Any advice on must have items and a pack would be appreciated.
I currently have a 2 Person Tarp Tent, a very compact -10ºC Black Wolf sleeping bag and a Jetboil stove. I also have a few other obvious things such as first aid, water, hiking poles and a head lamp.
What are the other items I need to finish my kit out? And what is a good priced, high quality backpack to put it all in? I have a smaller Camelbak now but it's not big enough to carry a tent and a sleeping bag.
