TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Opinions on S2S UL duo tent

Postby sanloz11 » Thu 12 Mar, 2015 12:04 am

As some of you may have seen im looking at UL fully enclosed tents for warm Australian desert, want fully enclosed due to snakes and monsquitos, not at all worried about warmth (I have amazing sleeping pad and duna) the $400 for this tent, sea to summit UL duo at 850g came to my attention... Looks enough for me and my dog.

Has anyone experienced this or recommend anything around this weight or less!!! Would like option for two people but not a requirement but I have a dog who comes with me.

Can't have lengthy weight times... Happy to spend a bit more as plan on it being a log term investment and I am about to undergo a road trip around Aus so will be using a lot!!!

Also have hilliberg but it's for snow conditions and weights a lot more.

Cheers.

I read a few reviews that state they suffer from pretty bad condensation and are pretty narrow if you are trying to fit more than one person inside. Also very light weight materials so not sure how well they'd last with repeated long term use.

Is this road trip in a car? If so the weight is not so much of an issue and I would be looking for something a bit roomier and heavier. After all this is going to be your 'home' so to speak for some time on a lengthy trip. If I was you and you plan on using the tent a lot I would be looking at something a bit more substantial and comfortable.

Something like this http://www.mountaindesigns.com/store/eq ... melight-2p would be suitable and is on sale at the moment.

I bought this http://www.snowys.com.au/Tents-Shelters ... c=4&id=155 the other day for my daughter for car camping and is on sale while stocks last.

Could also look at the Vango and Black wolf range as they make good value tents. Macpac have a couple of cheaper tents that can be had on sale at a decent price (most places will have an easter sale coming up). Snowys site linked above has a pretty good range and free delivery.

Also the Tarp tents offered to you in another thread are def worth a look as well if you do want light weight.

Road trip is in car... Hiking won't be! Lol
We plan on leaving the vehicle and going out bush regularly. So with hot temps and lost of water requirements weight means everything at this stage. But sadly can't take my tarp due to snakes and high level of bugs.

I've spoken to two people who have them and liked them. Both were aware and open about the issues with single skin tents and the limitations of this one, they'd definitely recommend the tent. Just not to someone like me ( over 6 foot).
Both were happy with the duo in heavy rain, not a big wind tent. Both had had other single skin tents and thought the condensation issue mentioned was no better or worse than previous tents. The people were a bloke at probably 5'10" and a woman 5'ish and used the tent mainly as a solo
