TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Which colour guylines do you prefer?

Postby simonm » Thu 19 Mar, 2015 10:23 am

Hi all,

Just wondering which colours people prefer for their guylines? You can select 2 options as I know some people like a certain colour with a reflective trace.

I love your glowire, Simon. Bright green or orange stops my friends from tripping over the guys during the day, and the reflective factor makes it nice and easy to find my tent again if i've needed a loo visit in the dark.

And the glowire guys are a lot lighter than my other ones. And they don't soak up much water. Very happy camper here. :D

since I usually camp in a group, often with kids, I like as bright and visible as possible.

Something subtle like fluro green or yellow with big reflective component. Like gg & turts I like them to be seen and not tripped over.

I would like some with a beeper that goes off when I am one full stride away from tripping over them.

If that can't be achieved, I will settle for orange fluoro reflective, which I still fall over, but not as frequently as with non reflective.

I usually use nylon accessory cord. It comes in a variety of diameters and colors. This is a favorite size (colors vary randomly):

I don't think it fits in any of the categories though as it is multi-colored and non-reflective.

I like the Hilleberg line as well (red and white non-reflective vectran/polyester blend), but it's expensive stuff.

Reflective and orange are doing well.

Orion do you find the nylon stretches at all?

Of course it stretches.

The Hilleberg Vectran cord doesn't stretch, or at least I wouldn't expect it to stretch much. But my Hilleberg tent is nylon and it stretches. So I'm getting up out of the tent to snug up the lines in any case. I have a Cuben tent with spectra cord, so nothing should stretch but I still get up to tighten the lines.

Interestingly I prefer a stretchable nylon guy to absorb shock loading and I do believe Sterling may make a 3 colour camouflage cord

I like thin (2mm or less) reflective cord. I'm also very interested in Lawson's new Ironwire. The fusing of polyester with spectra into a meltable, spliceable 8-strand cord sounds crazy and awesome.
