TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

K Mart Easter camping specials

Postby Analog6 » Thu 26 Mar, 2015 9:11 am

K Mart catalogue arrived this morning and has camping gear like Gasmate stoves on special, plus tents, beds, cooking sets etc. No idea if the prices are good- new to this - watch for the one in your letterbox or pick up in store.

Are those Gasmate heaters any good, BTW? Would be good for when I go van camping with my gazebo annexe, if they are safe and heat a small area well.

Starts page 37. Page 35 has a rechargeable thingy for emergency power for your phone/tablet

Those heaters are the same ones that Aldi was just selling, they are infact rebadged Companion ones

http://www.wildearth.com.au/buy/compani ... ter/509112

The warranty card lists companion brands as the issuer and the contact for any problems. I picked one up and tested it out and its a really solid piece of kit, and for only $50 I was stoked.

They can sell up to $150 at some places, and it's going to be really handy on my upcoming Aus road trip.

Can anyone offer a verdict on the $20/$30 kMart portable chargers vs the $100 Power Monkey ones you can get from Paddy Pallin?
It even looks like the $20 kMart one stores more charge than the Power Monkey?

power monkey is probably going to have better overall longevity, and likely keep charge longer. That said, they could be the same inside. No way to really know.

I think the power monkeys are IP rated as well so more suited to outdoor use etc. I've used my power monkey heaps in all sorts of places and its still going strong. Having said that though for $20 you could probably replace the Kmart one 10 times and still be better off $ wise.

Anyone know what size diameters the walking pole sections are? Was wondering if I could use the lower section to join my walking poles together for use in a Mid shelter. Similar to what BPL UK sell as a walking pole joiner but it would cost $5 instead of $65 +.

Those gas canisters are a bargain at $4.

If you want a very good quality power bank with a genuine rating, these are great value. http://www.mushtato.com.au/xiaomi-16000 ... RNXxVzTN_j
Probably a bit too much power for most but for multi day walks and if you have a few items to keep charged they are great.

Can't you normally get those canisters for about $1 each when you buy a carton?

Sorry, I thought you were referring to the cartridges for the heater, not the stove.

Great price for those cartridges - my little BBQ that uses those is invaluable! Anyone have any advice/recommendations about those walking poles?? At that price I couldn't go wrong, could I??

OK I bought the heater
Self preservation if the Boss gets too cold on the Glamping W/E she will never come camping again
K-Mart Corio only had 10 canisters left of their allocation[ a lousy 24 canisters - so I assume this is a loss-leader item] so I bought them all

Hi Lucy, we bought a pair of the hiking poles as spares to leave at a relative's house in Tasmania for day walks when visiting without our gear. For the price they seem fine for our needs (and save having to have check in baggage when flying). We regularly use hellinox poles, which we think are great. In comparison, the Kmart poles, as expected, are quite heavy, the twist lock function is more combersome than the flick lock I'm used to, the handles aren't as comfortable, and I have no idea about their rigour, but husband seems to think they are OK. If you haven't used poles and want a low cost way of trying them they would be OK for that, however, if you are looking for using poles on a regular basis, or for long trips with a heavy pack, it would be worth spending more money and getting a good pair.

Would i be correct in assuming these heaters (sold under whatever brand) would create CO when in operation so they would be of no use in a tent or inclosed area.

Just wondering how you guys would use them when camping/ glamping? Im guessing as a bit of a campfire substitute?

Travis.

Grabbed 2 of the 3 gas canisters they had out. Didnt want to be the person to clear them out and 2 will suffice my needs for some time. Picked up 2 poles too for spares. Cant complain at $5 each

Travis despite the warning we'll use them inside the tent if it's to cold to dress / undress comfortable
IMO it's no different to cooking inside and I've been doing that for almost forever. it's not as if these tents are even close to airtight
I would not use them in a house tho but also being radiant heaters they heat people not air so you only use them for a very short period of time

Thanks so much - I've never used poles before but did a huge walk at Cradle Mt last year with some ladies that said theirs were invaluable. You're right, this is a good price to test them! Thank you!
