TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Opinions -bearpaw bug bivvy with cheapo tarp options

Hi I usually lurk and changed my first mozzie net post as I am looking to order a bug bivvy from bear paw instead, wondered has anyone used their products?

regards the tarp I am a bit of a cheapo and wondered what the easiest way might be to get a durable 8-9ft x 10-12ft(ish) tarp. I was thinking of joining 2 x aus army style hootchies( total cost $70-90). One concern is I have an OD green one from kitbag.com.au which was only used once in 5 years. I held it up to the light the other day and it has dozens of pinprick holes near one end, which appear to be through the coating, but the thin light fabric underneath is still intact. I was able to squeeze water through these holed areas gently with water pistol which might sound funny, but thought I would test it. I assume its written off then? Not sure what caused these holes, whether these mil style tarps are cheap copies?

I also considered getting a 150-250sm cheapo green poly tarp in this size as the extra weight does not bother me. While I'm aware its not high end gear do these go okay in aus camping or am I missing something obvious?

I'd be using it mostly QLD forests where I will get some heavy rain, and occasionally southern states for sub zero camping( not above treeline). Thanks for any suggestions
