TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Hi all,

Any recommendations for gloves for 3-5 years olds for winter walks?

Yes After lots of running around when my kids were small I found that the cheapest glove you can find such as the stretch acrylic gloves sold at K-mart etc with a DIY shell were the best arrangement They can't keep them on their hands and are always losing them Strings down the sleeves for the over mittens and stupid cords on the gloves and they still kept losing them. For really cold weather and snow it was the same but fleece mittens over the gloves
The cheap shelled gloves and mittens are usually insulated with open cell foam which is good it it's cold dry but useless here. Better lots of cheap ones and change at need than really good gloves and mittens I found. I also found that by age 7 or 8 they were pretty good at looking after their stuff and losses were less frequent
Fingerless mitts are also better for some kids; again with fleece and shells at need, keeping their core body temperature warm with good clothing works well at keeping digits warm so maybe add another layer to the torso at the same time and for kids the cheap fleece sold at most fabric shops is good enough if you are DIYing , ALDI jackets are also good value there
Ve are too soon old und too late schmart

Thanks mate - some good suggestions there. We have the bulkier snow type gloves but wanted something that would allow a bit more dexterity and still have some warmth, especially for my daughter who really feels the cold.

Paddy's have some TNF fleece kid's gloves at the moment. They look decent.

Just grabbed a pair of these at Costco for our 2 year old son. They have mittens up to 6 years, and gloves for ages above that. Look to be fairly well made. A bit pricey at $15 a pair but not many options in this size range.

Dakine do gloves for all ages, some pretty warm ones and you can pick them up quite cheap usually.

Order from online retailers.
