I'm wondering if the set up and strength of this little shelter could be improved with the use of Henrys triangulated carbon fibre rods system in the rear?
If this is the case how much extra weight would it add

Hi Moondog,
The standard Pitch Lock* corner ,as used in the Scarps and other shelters, is not high enough for that.
The version used in the Double Moment is too high , so to put one in the Pro Trail we would need another version with custom made struts.
That apart from increasing the cost would slow down the set up /pack up time as well as adding some complexity , something that trough hikers can do without.
A lot of Contrails and now Pro Trails are purchased by long distance hikers .

Funny that, watching you on the week-end made me think that pitching time with struts would be faster; and stronger too.

What I meant was that having struts longer than 46cm means they need to be folded for storage and assembled for set up.
That is what needs to be done with the Double Moment.

I can and have put up with tent poles longer than that in the past as they live outside the pack vertically
I would imagine a small vertical pocket would be an advantage there

I've just disposed of a Moment DW, to be replaced with a Protrail, because the Moments struts are too long for my packing arrangements. No changes please.

Oh, and I'm waiting for stock to arrive so I can request in-house seam sealing. The status hasn't changed for some time. Any ideas when stock will be available Franco?

There is stock coming in every two weeks or so but this is also the busy season at TT so it appears that there is no stock but they are just sending out backorders as the stock arrives.

MD the struts can be removed from their sleeves but generally they are left in when packing as its a bit of a pain IMO.

That's why my thoughts bout packing exterior to the ruck in a dedicated tent pocket. After all I keep my liquid fuel in a dedicated exterior pocket

Hmmm, so if I order now, what do you think are my chances they'll be able to seal it?

The chances are pretty good although I am not sure what the weather is like there at the moment but my guess is that it is DRY .
Last year they seam sealed over 700 shelters, so they do find some time to do some of them.

I ordered a Pro Trail on April 15, and it was shipped Thur 23 Apr. Henry said the tents are sent from the factory to his office every Thursday, and then shipped.
When I ordered he said he had 150 back orders, so it only took 2 Thursdays. Add on your sealing days.

Just order it to get the ball rolling.

Hehe - well I'm not sure when I'll have the opportunity to test it. It's primarily intended for bikepacking, but the bike is as yet incomplete and I have nothing planned any time soon. And I'm an apartment dweller so can't even try it in the backyard.

But here's sonething to give you a sense of its size.
In case you can't read the tape, the tiles are 13" (330mm) square. Oh, and that is a 1.5 litre Nalgene bottle.

This morning a returned ProTrail arrived at my door so I thought of shooting a quick set up clip.
Similar to the Contrail , just a different way of doing the back.
I have a higher version uploaded as well, but this should be good enough.

There is about 10cm of stitching missed between the floor and the side mesh.
It's a 5 min job for me and a good opportunity to play with the tent and shoot another video or two.
