TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Footwear for tropical conditions

Hi all
I'm heading to Borneo later this year and am contemplating buying these low cut shoes, Zamberlan Men's 132 Airound GTX RR Hiking Shoe, http://www.mountaindesigns.com/store/fo ... ategory=88
they appear to be what I'm looking for but I was wondering if any of you out there have experience of real hot, humid conditions like Borneo and what would you recommend ?

I was in borneo a couple of years ago. i wore a pair of salomon trail runners and they were near perfect. The zamberlan's look great but I would not contemplate wearing gore-tex shoes. You are probably better off in a pair of easy draining shoes with a grippy sole. Zamberlan do some non goretex shoes and boots.

The only tropics I've dealt with is queensland, but I agree that you'll be better off with non-goretex shoes. In that humidity, the membrane will struggle to do anything, and your feet will be soaked regardless. might as well be getting some fresh water in there from time to time.

A pair of runners might see you right but if you wanted anything specific trail runners, such as Inov, are popular as are shoes like merrel ventilators that get a lot of *ahem* traction on this site.
