TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Tip for buying tent and sleeping mats.

Make sure the mats actually fit inside the footprint of the tent........

Picked up our remaining part of our monster order today........set the goondi 2 up, inflated the mattress's........"...only to discover they are too wide at the foot end.

Hoping the shop will exchange them for tapered versions. Kinda thought the shop would have been across this.

Hardly the shops fault, but it is a bit silly of OP to make it a mere 4cm too narrow for two "regular" size mats (183 x 52cm).

It's those little design details that...

This doesn't sound right. The Goondie is tapered with 1220mm at the head end and 1000mm at the foot end, but a regular length mat wouldn't go all the way to the bottom of the tent. The floor is 2300mm long and the mats are 1830 so there should be about half a metre of spare room. I would think the two mats could fit reasonably well side by side. Weeds, are you sure you had the tent floor pitched out taut? Otherwise it is indeed a huge oversight by OP.

Umm, not blaming the shop, they are more than happy to exchange mats to get everything fitting just right.

Hopefully they can apply the learning from this going forward.

I thought I had researched everything to death, an oversize by me.......also discovered the manufacturer measurements don't match the real product.

I can only go off the equipment we purchased and have in our lounge room......have no others brands/kit to compare against.

Tent was set up indoors and we pulled it tight....yes could get a little more with pegs. I was armed with a tape measure.

My mat was a long wide/ wide long (what ever they are called) and the wife's is a regular.

Two regulars will still be still touching the sides when set up centrally at the foot end. Yes we could have to regulars closer to the top and all will be good. Still requires us to exchange at least one mat. Two tapered mats will for just nicely.

It was more of a heads up for newbies that are getting into bushwalking.........We have dropped about $4k over the last month into our new pastime......we were just a little disappointed last night.

I will get it all out again over the weekend to double check.

I see, that makes a lot more sense. I was sure that OP would have ensured that 2 regular mats fit side by side, even if it's a tight fit.

Yes correct.......the shop suggested I get a wide. Two regulars will fit with space at your feet.
