TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Roping packs across obstacles

Did our first walk yesterday and come across a gully that would only normally be a trickle however it had a good flow....maybe three foot deep and six foot wide.

Wendy shimmied across a small fallen tree with pack on, was a bit unstable. I found a. Old piece of timber that just fitted across but still had 100 water over it.

It was no biggie but it made me think if anybody carries a bit of rope and carabiners to assist with obstacles??

There are a lot of routes where pack-hauling may be necessary and I often carry a length of light webbing and a carabiner just in case.
However, flooded creeks/rivers are a different matter. It's a specialised technique using lines to help cross fast moving water and trying it without really knowing what you're doing is often more dangerous than going across unaided.
