needing some help with a quilt/bag and a cover

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

needing some help with a quilt/bag and a cover

Hi guys, so I have a few questions regarding a new sleep system that I want to use for winter camping, with the possibility of campng on snow under light snowfall.

I have recently bought a MLD Duomid as my first "tent" since my old car camping tent (the last few years I have been using hammocks and/or tarps)

I did not get the inner net with my Duomid so I am now looking for a quilt or bag and a cover. The covers I have looked at have been relatively light but cant find much info on either. I have been looking at the Terra Rosa tyvek or deluxe covers and have also come across the Alpkit Hunka and Hunka XL

Would these bags be OK for this sort of activity? I also have a decent sleeping mat and I'm trying not to spend too much money.

For the second item I want to buy, I am very open to suggestion and willing to spend up to $300-350 on a decent winter quilt/bag, but from what I can see there aren't any cottage quilt makers in AUS or anywhere that sells them. With the exchange rate what it is at the moment I'm thinking a nice quilt (EE is what I have been considering for months) is out of my league.

I would generally prefer a down bag/quilt and something on the lighter side of things, Im also 6'2" and a side sleeper for the most part I also sleep pretty warm.

What kinda comfort/limit if I'm sleeping on snow? anythings to look out for?

Any help with this guys would be thankfully received, I have read through a lot of old posts but still undeceided and hoping the community can help me!!

We've talked about comfort limits for snow camping quite a bit
My own opinion based on a lot of experience and my realisation that I am a cold sleeper is for -18C / 0 F for the system total
What's under you will have more bearing on sleeping comfort that what's on top.
I recommend always having a CCF pad no matter what mattress you decide on as a back up
The Tyvek SB cover from TerraRosa works

Thanks a lot for your help MD, I have been going through snow camping 101, I have read a lot of it but before but good to be reminded and a few other gems that I hadn't seen. I guess I was looking for something halfway to a snow camping setup and a general winter setup, but the more I read the more I think I should probably just invest in a proper snow camping system or at least build towards it.

The quilt might be a little out of my price range at the moment and probably quite close to what I could get an EE -12c quilt inc shipping ($430)

I am interested in the Terra Rosa cover, just wondering if buying something with a hood might be better for bad weather.

As I've never used a quilt in winter I can't really comment but the Nunatak unit is reputed to be very good indeed
As for a head covering you are now into bivvy sacks IMO
If you wanted the Tyvek for a quilt cover tho I'm sure Evan could make you one to suit by not sewing it all the way up
The difference between winter set-up and snow camping can be bridged by good layering and a decent parka for sleeping in; or in my case a parka plus half bag for the legs
