TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

warbonnet quoted weights

So I was set on a Hennessy until I saw the Warbonnet hammocks. Hennessy just can't complete from the looks of them one thing though it that the Warbonnet with the dual layers says it can take 400lbs and only weight in under a kilo I'm pretty sure. I've looked around and these numbers seem accurate but how? Just curious if I missed something considering the Hennessy"s comparable hammock is heavier and weaker??

the way I understand it, hennessy includes the little tarp and straps into their weight, where as I think warbonnet might be just the hammock. so you'd have to add the weight of the suspension (not much) and tarp. The other thing is that over here the price points even out, but for a long time the hennesy were a cheaper complete system. the hennesy uses more rugged fabric as well, no worries sleeping a few nights on the ground with the hennesy, I don't think warbonnet guys would do the same. (I might be wrong) Either way, I want one.

Proud owner of an WBBB XLC (double layer).

And yes - weight is just the hammock. You have different suspension options, and of course the tarp is separate. You can set it up as a tent - but they recommend a ground sheet for protection....

The most comfortable sleep you'll have though. :)

What are you doing for the rest: top quilt, underquilt, tarp?

Hennessy mainly uses 200denier fabric i think, so it will be plenty strong whilst the Warbonnet uses 30denier through to 70denier fabric, as do most other cottage vendor hammocks. It just depends on how the manufacturer chooses the weight rating. Most cottage vendor weight ratings will be based on comfort though not breaking strength. Hennessy tends to be very conservative with their weight ratings.

It's only recently that hammock specific fabrics have come onto the market for the cottage vendors, and some of these have quoted higher weight ratings than some of the older fabrics.

I guess you are looking at the 10foot Blackbird 1.7 DL to have the 400b rating and under a kilo. As Simon says ( "Simon Says" tee hee  ) this is 2 layers of 70d at 880 grams with whopies or 964 grams with buckles and straps. Plus a little extra for 2 carabiners, or whatever you use at the tree. $185 whoopee or $175 buckle and strap
The comparable HH is the Expedition, with 200d Oxford nylon, which in my opinion is a nicer feel to lie on, and will hold its own strength wise with 2 layers of 70d. If you click on the customise button for the Expedition, you'll see that the hammock on its own weighs in at 952gm for the zip model, or 907gm for the classic, with no need for 'biners etc. $120 zip and $100 classic.

Thanks for the replies guys and its given me a bit of perspective on the two. Still leaning towards the WBBB and good to hear from owners, no one really mentions the fabric or anything in reviews they're just like the footbox and shelf are awesome over the Hennessy.
