I was thinking of purchasing one of these pouches.

The vendor does specify they are made of TPU and PVC.

What do you think?

Thanks.

'Safe' is all relative, until health scientists discover the next 'toxic' compound being released and connect it to certain human health condition. Question is, do you feel comfortable with the manufacturer. Since you asked and that unlikely anyone has done a full lab analysis of the residue from this water bladder, I'd suggest that you look elsewhere. Obviously there are others who have bought and drank from it and are still alive. Then again, alive is also a relative term. :)

While TPU itself is probably quite safe, they don't say where its made. I suspect China. Not saying anything from China is bad. But factories there tend to not really care what stuff gets contaminated with. So would I buy a discount bladder? not so much. That said, your local tap-water probably has more stuff in it that you wouldn't want to drink, but until they can figure out how to filter out all the pharma-leftovers, well, hopefully it all works out in the end.

There are alternative sources of such products which, have far more encouraging levels of business ethics and accountability.

I suggest that this is an unwise area in which to attempt to save what is a small amount of money.

PVC has historically been found in vessels and tubing for intravenous fluid. I was, incidentally, reading this morning about the safety of PVC in blood transfusions and no ill effects have been reported in humans, according to the text i was reading.
Animal studies have shown that PVC fragments from IV tubing has led to cardiac arrest in rats, kills minnows and causes cellular damage to mammalian cells in vitro.

So it's probably safe unless you're storing minnows in your bladder or watering your rats from it 8)
