How to use snow shoes?

I will soon be doing an organised snow shoe day walk at Mt Baw Baw.

I am aware that Australian snow conditions are somewhat different to North America and Europe so am looking for an Australian-oriented tutorial.

Of course, the group leader will give instruction but I just want to get ahead.

Can someone suggest something? Thanks.

Seriously you just put them on and walk. There are advanced techniques for ice and steep slopes and you try never to traverse in snowshoes but for gentle slopes and tracks you simply walk wearing them. You do have to adjust your gait slightly to swing a little wider than normal and you do need to lift your feet just a little more but that's it.

As Moondog said, just walk. In 5seconds you'll have it sussed out. You might step on the opposite shoe a few times every now and again but doing so will remind you to walk with your feet a fraction further apart.

Definately worth using ski poles too imo.

Travis.

And don't try stepping backwards unless you're in Yowies . . .
