Hi Forum, just wondered if anyone has used the marmot tungsten and might be able to report on its quality? Not much in the way or reviews out there, a couple said its okay, another guy on amazon shot it to pieces at great length, said its poor copy of what marmot used to be.


I'd like something fairly durable and decent water head rating for some bushwalking up here in Cape York. its going to see some sun and its going to get some rain. Any other suggestions appreciated too. Full provisos are 1Person earth tone/drab colored stand alone( aka dome +fly). preferably generous mesh for airflow. I don't mind if it weighs over 2kg, durability and staying under $400 the main provisos...

I've just bought one. I've got it but haven't had the chance to use it yet. Was supposed to be taking it out this weekend but now I'm sick. So going to have to postpone. I was planning replacing the guy lines today though so can post some specific photos if you want.
It appears to be decent quality. All I've done is set it up but it appears bomb proof. Well thought out and current models differ to the YouTube unboxing versions. The airvent is no longer at the door flap which I think is better, especially for heavy rain up on the cape.

Anyways I'm taking it out today, let me know if you want any pics.

Hi Huntsman247, that's good news. I'd love to see any pics you can take. How is the mesh, actual airflow permitting?

My only experience of the Marmot Tungsten was the first foray into the Eldons, where one of my companions used one.
My Scarp survived the gales and storms on Eldon Peak, albeit not particularly comfortably. MJD's Nemo didn't even flinch through the worst of it. Joe''s Tungsten was flattened, snapped a pole and leaked.
Obviously II'm not massively impressed, although you are not likely to get conditions like that up Cape York unless you go walking in cyclone season.

As I've said I haven't actually used it yet. Although now I'm particularly interested in trying it out next gale opportunity and see what happens.

It wasn't brand new, but it hadn't had a lot of use. Granted, the weather was appalling - 95km+ winds etc - but the two other tents were no older and coped a lot better. Maybe we just did a better job of pitching them.

I removed the thick "guyline" strap on the door side and had to cut the plastic strap fastener with wire cutters. It was rather difficult to cut. At face value, it seems pretty good. Wonder if it will hold up to some abuse.

When was that if you don't mind me asking? Poles look really sturdy. Wondering if it may have been improved since then... I set mine up this afternoon in the front yard freestanding firstly as I wanted to measure guyline lengths ect. and the wind picked up and blew it tumbling a decent distance. I thought something was gonna snap but it's perfectly fine. That wasn't 95k though.
I'm really wanting to test it in wind now. lol

Huntsman that was great, I think I like it. How is the internal length, I'm 6'3 with size 13 feet, reckon a fellows feet and head will be free from the touching the mesh?

Ah cancel the above, just saw on another review all the reflective logos all over them, that's a deal killer for me. Feel free to keep reviewing the product though, its informative.

Maybe three and a half years ago, so it probably has had an update. The conditions we had were extreme, and it was a very exposed campsite. My reaction is less on overall performance as the comparison to the other two tents.

Huntsman actually might sound out of left field but any chance you might be interested is testing what reflects on this tent at night? And whether these parts could covered somehow. I think the marmot logo on the fly itself is reflective which will problematic unless using fly inside out or coloring it in with a nikko pen is possible lol. I like the tent and on a serious note dont like advertising my presence particularly hiking overseas.

As you can see the main logos are not reflective. Its only the guyline loops on the tent that have a reflective strip on them and my custom guylines that are reflective.
The grey looks slightly shiny in the pic but definately not shiny in person. Shine the torch all over it and nothing happens.

Just realised its the moss green version which I was after has the yellow on it -this reviewer seems to think are refectlive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?
I'll call the store tomorrow and see what they reckon. Will be just my luck if the discreet olive drab type colour has the shiniest trims

Just for future info, I found out the yellow trims and logo on the moss version aren't reflective. And found one at a local tentworld store I can check out, local being 300km away, but that's better than usual.
