Just thought it'd be interesting to see what everyones current big 4 is- shelter, sleeping bag, pack & sleeping pad.

1. Shelter: just got the golite Shangri-la 5... fun for the whole family! Solo I have Sierra Designs Lightning XT1
2. Sleeping Bag: Montbell UL Spiral downhugger 30 degree
Pack: Aarn Guiding Light
Pad: Neo Air regular

Shelter: Exped Vela 1. Yet to be used.
Sleeping Bag: Roman -5 Synthetic bag, not sure of model. Heavy at 2kg. Ok if car camping with a nearby heater!
Pack: WE Breakout. Great pack
Pad: Thermarest Prolite.

Not quite my current yet as I'm waiting for the tent to be delivered:

At some point I'll replace the pack as it's too heavy at around 3.5kg from memory.

Pack, tent,bag: 7max, 5kg min(?), for a 5-12 day away, with off-track ; Mission: Tasmania. (Step by; can you get the theme music from Mission Impossible? )
Mat and Stove(with fuel): 2kg max
Jacket and Boots.

Then, food: I think it's only from the 5 day mark that the weight saving becomes an issue and people talk of figures between 700 and 900 grams per day, as a rule of thumb.
Then the relevant bits: Thermals in Tassie, electrics, stationary (maps, guides,encyclopaedias etc) and toothbrush?

Sleeping bag: Roman extremelite sub zero synthetic (1.3kg) and Kathmandu pathfinder down (680g). I know I know Kathmandu but I've found this a great little bag that packs down palm size and is toasty.
Pack: golite pinnacle, deuter aircontact. I also have a Kathmandu interloper for travel that I've used on multiday day walks as I don't mind the harness fit for me. Oh and a deuter kid carrier 2 if the little monster is on my back
Sleeping pad: POE thermo ether 6 (~650g).

Although I dont consider myself a lightweighter, at 3.7 (much less for 1 or 2 night trips) it seems im up there with the lightest of them!

SLEEPING BAG: Salewa 750 (Dam thing wont die)
PACK: Macpac Cascade ( Dam thing wont die, but has had some repairs)
MAT: Thermarest, old, purple, thin (Dam thing wont die)

I have got to say the service life on most of my gear is amazing, the only problem is that it makes it hard to justify the upgrade to the new shiny bits we all covet.

You ought to do a thread on your modified Go-lite Shangri-La. I'd be curious to know more about that!

Fun idea for a thread, nice work

My kit's nothing fancy, but does the job and is dependable:

Sleeping Bag: Mountain Designs Kashgar 75(summer), Moutain Designs Ultra 500(winter - as yet untested) - with Thermalite Reactor when required (or perfect on it's own mid-summer)
Shelter: Outer Limits Backpacker, nicknamed "The Barnacle" by my car-camping mates. Comfortable 2-person / spacious 1-person, reasonably lightweight at 2.2kg - not exactly roomy but it does the job. Has done me well through the warmer months over that last 4 years - and despite wanting (note: not necessarily needing) an upgrade, I'm finding it difficult to justify the price tags given I paid $100 for it, and that most alternatives are about the same weight anyway...
Pack: Macpac Cascade 75. Unkillable. Nuff said. I'm getting the feeling that if the bomb dropped, it'll just be Cascades and cockroaches that'll live on... (or cockroaches wearing tiny Cascades... strange mental image that...)
Pad: Mountain Designs Somnus Lite. Recent upgrade from a failing Kathmandu equivalent - same thickness, 3/4 the weight, half the packed size... go figure.

Correction - 3.1kg but that's still too heavy. It does have a great harness with a really wide waist strap but it's probably better to try and get myself a pack that's around 2kg. By changing tent and sleeping bag I've managed to shed 2.5kg from my big 4 weight so far.

Yeah? But I don't think the Akto really meets my demands. I don't want a tent that requires maintenance (bumping off snow) all through the night during heavy snowfall - that's why I sold my last single person tent.
