Found this really interesting. Being able to get to a supermarket to buy up your hiking meals. Lots of items don't seem to be available here

Which ones did you problems with specifically?

He must carry over a kilo of rubbish for a one week walk. Ridiculous.

Other than the Mountain House meals I don't see a lot that you cannot find in some form or other in Australian supermarkets. The main thing I note is the greater number of items available in single serve packets compare to here.

the packets of tuna, and chicken haven't seen them. (but I don't do a lot supermarket shopping)

It's surprising what you can find in the supermarket if you take the time to browse.
Packet tuna is definitely available, and chicken in small cans. Instant couscous has become a favorite since discovering it a few years ago.
