Basic PC map viewer?

Mon 23 May, 2011 9:56 am

Hi,

I have Vicmap Topographic 1:25000 maps on disc, (PNG files for the map pictures and each with a corresponding MAP file. )

I'm looking for basic browser/viewer software which will allow me to view these maps seamlessly, ie pan and scroll across the sheets on a pc.

I've had a look at the recommended OziExplorer software, and I'm afraid I dont need/want anything that sophisicticated. :?

Any idea?

I haven't tried it, but there's OZEX: http://code.google.com/p/ozex/

It's supposed to be an open source system for using OziExplorer maps. I don't know if it works with PNGs or just OZFs.

(If I was aware of this project before I wrote Bit Map (iPhone app), I would have used it's code which would have saved me a lot of time, and probably would have resulted in a much better feature set.)

Oziexplorer lite should work for you. Much fewer features than oziexplorer. A little quirky to use bit not complicated.
