Got an ACR resqlink as a birthday present. On the back of the box it says they will replace it for free if it's used in an emergency situation and you send it in with the story of why it needed to be used. Are these a one use device?

Mmm, I've had one of these units myself for about 3 years. Thankfully never had to activate it. My understanding is that they are re-usable after servicing following an incident requiring activation (replace the battery, re-test etc). This seems to be supported by the ACR web site:
https://www.acrartex.com/support/faqs/survivorclub-faqs/#q-19380"Once someone enters the Survivor Club program, you replace their used beacon with a new beacon. Is that because an ACR or Artex beacon can only be used once before it must be replaced?
Absolutely not. ACR and Artex beacons are built to be used multiple times, though the battery should be replaced after each use. The purpose behind our replacement offer is to incentivize legitimate survivors who have used an ACR/Artex beacon to share their experiences with other outdoor sports enthusiasts who may one day benefit from the use of a lifesaving beacon."

Correct, though they should be treated as a single use device in that they are only to be used in situations of "grave and imminent danger". Hence why I chose not to get technical. Battery replacement shouldn't even be a concern when deciding whether to activate or not.
