Hey mate, how does that sensor shift work, I noticed Pentax using it too... I mean does it use sensor shift to capture a higher res raw file?

it takes eight shots in quick succession, each time the sensor literally shifts position around in a square until all images are taken and the resultant images are combined together as one large image, you have to shoot with a tripod and any movement during the sequence of shots will show up as a blur in the photograph

Yep makes sense, cheers wayno, there's a 200mp hassleblad that does a similar thing I think...

But is the resulting image from a raw or stitched jpg? It's certainly very interesting

I obviously skipped of that part, but that's got me excited, never much been into Olympus, but will be looking deeper into this one, I hope the IQ is there...

I was hoping to replace my ageing GF1 with the new Pen F, love the retro looks of it.

Unfortunately, it hasn't followed the original in functionality, just body styling (which harks back well to the original). I used the original as a loan from my Uncle way back. I think it was the Pen FT. It had a good selection of lenses, not as wide and good as the current, but the manual controls for shutter, aperture and ISO were great. With the new version, these controls are replaced by the PASM dial. Not a fan. All the main selections are via the LCDs. So sad! Hopefully they will bring out a genuine replacement.

Have forgotten the original F was a half frame. Always thought that was neat. Thanks.

It was an interesting camera to use. The frame was vertical, not horizontal. Size was 18x24mm, which is half the width of the standard 35mm (24x36). So a 36 shot film gave 72 shots.

The u4/3rds frame is 18 x 13.5mm. The original Pen F lenses are usable on micro 4/3rd due to their larger image circle. Here's betting some users of the new Pen F will be scrabbling for the original lenses. Adapters are available. A few Pen F original lenses on ebay.
