I having trouble organising transport from Launceston to the the Overland Track head on the morning of 20Th of April.
I have contacted to usual companies. The best I can get is transport on the track head at 5PM on the 20th of April.

Go the day before if possible or buy a good torch.

Find somewhere sneaky to camp...

(if you can get dropped at Dove Lake you could always do a night walk into Scott Kilvert if you have to, shorter trip than to Waterfall).

How is this still happening? What is wrong with this state and its "tourism" industry?

Know what you mean Striker.. we just returned from the Overland track. This trek is fantastic but somehow we got the feeling that the locals don't seem too pushed about the work opportunities which it could provide.
The accommodation which we stayed at for the first night did not open reception till 1pm (yes it was cheap but still!!)..On Easter Sunday it did not open at all as public holiday. As for the bus service..TassieLink..more like "tassieGonefor lunch" is totally stupid.. we had to hire our return shuttle bus from Hobart..
First and last time to Tasmania, think will stick to New Zealand where they encourage people to visit.

Parks won't give you the OLT pass late in the day (3pm might be the cutoff iirc) so a late start is out.
Also, no matter how popular bushwalking in Tassie seems (on a bushwalking forum

) there just aren't the numbers for additional regular state-wide transport services or even to Cradle Mt. As with large players the small private operators they can't be expected to operate at a loss
I would suggest (for others) to look at transport Before booking a departure date.
