Is it true?

Tue 19 Jan, 2010 1:11 pm

Someone just told me it's snowing down there on the mountains.

We hit 39 degrees on our wide shady verandah yesterday and not much better today. (Beenleigh - half way between brisbane and gold coast.)

Not sure about Tas.
Just spent 2 weeks down there and the closest was ice on the tent and hail!

But this is international news re the high country in NSW & Vic:

EDIT - I believe the snow was not settling as the ground temperatures are still too warm to support a build up.

Today has been the coldest in a while, wouldn't be surprised if some of the higher peaks had some snow, you did make me turn around from the computer though - Wellington is snow-free :D

Like Eggs said, ground is too warm for any snow to settle, but I believe it was snowing on the higher peaks earlier in the week.

I dont know why people find this so hard to believe! It snows in Tassie EVERY summer somewhere.....

It snows at Great Lake at least once a month, every month.
There was a few snow falls on Sunday just past on the edge of the thunder cells, we had none at Miena, but there was some around Wihareja.

It might snow every summer but when your a couple of hours away by plane and sitting in a puddle of sweat it seems surreal.

It was snowing reasonably heavily on Chinaman Plains on the 18th for about 30 minutes. As others have said though, nothing unusual.

There was no snow on the Overland Track and I didn't see any settle on the higher peaks either, although views to the high peaks were rare at times.
