I wont get on my soap box, but yes i happy to pay for parks pass, i get the 2 year pass.
But the fee to walk overland is unique to Tasmania? i know in Western Australia i did not have a additional fee to pay for walks.

The closest comparison would be NZ, right? There are fees for the various great walks. For the facilities provided, not unreasonable.
