Transport Lake St Clair to Cradle Mountain January

Dear all

We are 2 people starting the overland track on the 11th of January 14. We were thinking of leaving our car at Lake St Clair and then book a bus service to Cradle Mountain (either on the 10th or 11th). Tassielink doesn't seem to operate on these days and the bus services are incredibly expensive.

So if you're also looking for transport from Lake St Clair to Cradle mountain on the 10th or 11th please contact me, we should be able to bring the costs down if we're a larger group.

Also, I've been reading about the possibility of hitchhiking. Walking to Derwent Bridge and then hitchhiking from there. Is there anyone that has done it recently and would recommend it?

Thx

We have organized a shuttle with tiger@cradlemountaincoaches.com.au to cradle mountain for the 9th - costing us a bit but they have advised if more people book it will bring the cost down - thats if you want to get there a day earlier and maybe do a couple short walks.

Hi, that's certainly an option to consider for us. What time are you being picked up on the 9th?

We have booked the bus for midday 9th Jan Lake St Clair - expected to arrive Cradle Mountain around 3-4pm. I would suggest sending them a email - Helen from tiger@cradlemountaincoaches.com.au has been extremely helpful with us. The more the merrier.

Hi, there are 2 of us starting the walk on Sunday 12/01/14. I was thinking about leaving the car at Cradle Mountain since I leave Devonport on 19th and have been looking at a pickup from Lake St Clair back to Cradle Mountain. Could possibly do it the other way and leave the car at Lake St Clair and get a pickup to Cradle Mountain on 11th. Let me know if you've made any plans as yet.

We are on a quiet tight schedule so we have now decided to book a shuttle for the 10th of January, leaving at 12pm from Lake St Clair to Cradle Mountain. If anyone wants to join our shuttle, please contact cradle mountain coaches (bus@cradlemountaincoaches.com.au).

Have confirmed a booking for 2 extra on 10th. Cost is now $100 pp. Will be cheaper again if there is anyone at Lake St Clair that wants to jump on it too. See you on the bus.

Hello people,

as many people I have signed up for the walk without checking how difficult and expensive it is to get from Launceston to cradle mountain. As I am by myself it makes things a bit more difficult in terms of hiring a bus.

I want to start the hike on sat 25th Jan, as early as possible. If anyone knows how to get there on that date (or on the day before) for a reasonable price than that would be great :)

Does anyone happen to be going to Cradle from Launceston this afternoon. I have just picked up Fran in Hobart who is hoping to get to Cradle today. I am only going to Launceston. She is from Vermont.

Its a long weekend that weekend so I reckon hitching from Launie on the Friday/Saturday would be pretty easy.
