Yes, same here, maybe, I'm afraid. Want to start next friday (25th) on the Moonlight Ridge Track, to Melaleuca, and out via Port Davey and McKay-Huon Tracks.
I know the obvious answer is "as long as the weather stays hot and dry", but can anyone say how long these track closures normally last? Is two weeks relatively long, or normal?

We've never really seen fires to this degree before. Or at least not during my time. There's a fair chance the tracks could be closed for a while yet. I'd imagine PWS will not hesitate to open them again once they are certain all risk has passed. They have asked bushwalkers and 4wd'ers to abandon all plans of remote area trips statewide.
There's just no real way to know how long this will be the case sorry. The scope of fires in the area (whole state really) is quite frightening. A bit of rain forecast today, but a few hot days coming next week.

I thought the state wide thing was just for the day after the storm while the worked out where fires were.

It still says that on the website so I'm not sure. May be best to call PWS to find out the exact details.

Oh... Sorry for my misinformation above. Here's the current advice:

PWS strongly advises not to venture out into remote areas, either by foot or by vehicle during the current fire situation, unless you can obtain reliable information from a PWS visitor centre as to the safety of the area you propose to visit.
