Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone is headed in to Lake Myrtle Track, or Walls, on either the 29th or 30th of Oct and is interested in either sharing or splitting a ride? We are arriving in Hobart on the 7th and have had to change our SW plans due to the fires, and it's a bit far to get Hobart friends to drop us off! We can meet up in Hobart, Launceston, Deloraine or wherever.
We're in for 14 days and not 100% coming back out the same way so need to avoid renting and leaving a car...
Also, ascending from the OLT to Traveller Range via the Stony Creek route - I'm presuming stay on the true left of the most southerly arm in order to come out near the small round lake due west of Athena? Happy for PM if people don't want to post details given no real track or pad.
Thanks in advance!

I've sent you a PM mate.
Cheers.

I'm curious about what fires are making your SW trip a no-go? There's been burns recently, and some are planned, but they don't seem to be a problem?

Yeah, I also found that puzzling. All the tracks have been reopened, haven't they? I'd be more concerned about the big low pressure system that's going to hit around then.

The Traveller Range is quite exposed in wet weather. But it's character building.
Approaching from north or south is via Junction, Payanna or Travellers Rest. The west is via the Gate Post - very worn, or the creek-line climb to small lake 1167m, at the south-west corner and on to the big lake (1188m) and i've heard that Stony Creek's an option, just north of Bowling Green. Maybe it's become preferred to the more remote Gatepost.
