Anyone have any new info on access or routes to Mt Stormont?

Not sure you've many options unless you have keyed access of Cradle Road.
Suggest drive to Lake Lea, park and stroll across the plains along Bond Peak to the top.
No access restrictions other than observe the protocol for private, sensitive land
Only other option a less long hike fom Moina but there's locked access there and it's long walk.

Or a nice walk down the river and scrub it up to Stormont
That walk is epic IMO.

Very BAD idea!

This is an offence under section 14B of the Police Offences Act 1935 (Tas) that carries an imprisonment term of;

If the person trespasses onto land, structure or other prememis;

25 penalty units or
Six months imprisonment

No idea when that was Iluv but the gates are locked now.
Not sure you'd drive around them.

But coming in from Moina it's actually a reserved road through the first bit, then hydro but the reserve wanders off the road so that's where you'd come unstuck if you tried bluffing.
I'd imagine that last owner knows full well where the reserve is in relation to the existing track.
I certainly wouldn't push it through that way.
You could walk around edge of lake then scrub it through to the road and head off southwards ⁶

Depending on water flow in the River Lea, it may be possible to walk in via the Devonport Mines Track to the river, cross, continue on the remains of the old vehicle track to the saddle, and then cross-country up along the ridge. I have plans to check out the viability of this route but haven't gotten around to it yet. Maybe sometime next summer.
Access is possible through private property from Lake Gairdner, although prior permission is a must. At least one of the northern bushwalking clubs takes a group in this way on rare occasions.

I've only gone as far as Devonport Creek, which was a dry foot crossing at the time. But it's good to know the river isn't going to be a problem.

Hi guys,
I visited Mount Stormont last Winter. Our group climbed the mountain from Lake Gardner; we had permission from the landowner. Definitely an underrated mountain, the walking across the plateau is lovely!
