Ben Lomond - Winter summit

Wed 05 Jun, 2019 2:58 pm

Ben Lomond is a great spot to explore all year round, but is at it’s peak, pun intended, during the winter. Although the hike to the top isn’t incredibly far from Car Villa (9k return), it certainly puts you through your paces, once again pun intended. Once at the plateau, the snow is already deep enough to make it feel like a real day of mountaineering fun.
My only advice would be to stay vigilant on the boulder type climb as you turn left just prior to the summit and just after the huts. In summer there is significant potential to slip though the cracks and injure yourself, so question the snow coverage in between the boulders at all times.
Really good fun and certainly recommend for a snowy mountain summitty kind of day.
See you at the top.
Andy

Very nice.

Have they repaired the fire damaged buildings?

No, it’s just flat. Seems to be nothing happening yet

Great photos, especially the upside down one!!
I was up at Legges Tor this morning. Most of the snow is gone but lots of amazingly interesting ice-covered ponds. Not easy walking up to the summit with so much ice.
