Federation peak road closure

Postby Jones5113 » Sun 21 Jul, 2024 10:49 am

Hi all,

I’m planning a federation peak walk next year
Just wondering how long it’s taken people to cover the 7ish km from the closed road to the trail head?
I’m assuming it’s fairly easy walking?

It will take as long as it takes you to walk 7 km. It's just a gravel road, not steep. It was previously easy 2wd car drivable. You could take a bike.

Not an overly helpful response there sorry…
Just looking for a general time from a few people to assist in my planning

In good walking you might allow 1:20.
When I was returning along it with feet in torment due to starting to get trench foot from being too wet for too long, it was more of a painful shuffle and took longer.

If you are asking how long it takes to walk 7km on a road, maybe this isn't the walk for you.
I know this comment will probably upset you, but learning your basics of maps, contours, distance and time over differing ground should be second nature before you head into the Arthurs.
Have a search for the current news of the missing walker in that area.

Sigh…
This is why I have resisted posting on forums. I can read a map, I am a very experienced hiker and am very well aware of the dangers that exist in this area of the world. I grew up in Tassie and have done a lot of hiking in this area. I will be going with two other people who share the same experience.

All I was asking for was some actual real information to compare to my estimate from looking at the maps.
1.5 hours is about what I was thinking, so I’ll go with that.

The first response pointed out it's an easy 7km walk along an old road. Can't work out how that wasn't helpful.
