CPCA Closure - Deer Control

Postby north-north-west » Fri 25 Apr, 2025 4:21 pm

A significant whack of the Central Plateau Conservation Area will be closed from 28.04.2025 to 1.06.2025 for aerial shooting operations. Details (including map) in the link below.

Access to Clarence Lagoon and the road portion of the route into Travellers Rest are affected. Northern boundary seems to be roughly Turranna Bluff to Ironstone. Eastern boundary roughly along the crest of the tiers to Split Rock. Walls remains unaffected.

It's good that some control of the deer population is occurring.

It's also ludicrous that they are a protected species. So on one hand, they are protected and you are not allowed to shoot them without a permit, and even with a permit there are strict bag limits. But on the other hand, they are culling them because they are an out-of-control menace. Crazy situation based on protecting the interests of the elite hunters. (When I say "elite", I'm only using this as a reference to how this situation appears to based on the old english gentry model of protection.)
