Lees paddocks to Falling Mountain

Postby Lostsoul » Mon 28 Mar, 2022 12:09 pm

Planning to climb Falling Mountain by walking in through Lees Paddocks, have been as far as Reg Wadley before but looking to camp a little further in but not at Kia Ora.
Anyone know any nice spots along the river to pitch a tent past Reg Wadley Hut

I don't recall a lot of open ground beyond the flats around Wadleys, which end a bit over one km upstream. That's what, maybe four km short of the Overland?

Yes that’s what it looks like on google maps too, grassy looking areas a km or so past Reg Wadley hut.

Just came across this post and thought I’d update.
Ended up camping right at the southern end of Lees right on the river, beautiful spot.Walked through the old Paddy Hartnett track which surprisingly was easy walking and easy to navigate, beautiful Myrtle forest and pops out near Kia Ora.
Ended up putting in a late one visiting all the falls as well as climbing Falling Mountain and had no trouble finding my way back through to Lees in the dark.
