Gell & the Cheyne Range

Hi all,
Am back in tassie for a little while & thought I’d take the chance to finally try and do the Gell/Cheyne Range -out over Hugel circuit. Just wondering if anyone has been in there over the last couple of years? Had a read back through some of the trip reports, but all from circa 2015 or earlier, wasn’t sure if fire had gone through in the 6 years I’ve been away.
Also - would ideally spend 4 days, but a mate is quite keen to join me & they’ve only got 3 days spare - both of us are happy to do big days but just thought I’d check whether folks thought the circuit was reasonable in 3 days rather than 4?
Finally - I don’t have my copy of Abels with me, do folks suggest aiming for the saddle b/w chimera and hippogriff or to go over hippogriff if we’re not too fussed on summit bagging?
Thanks in advance!

Three days is doable if you're fit and fast, but if the weather goes off it will be really unpleasant not having any leeway. If you have a vehicle at Cynthia Bay you do have the option of a slightly faster return by going from the Hugel plateau to Little Hugel and then down via Forgotten and Shadow; especially useful if it's bad high up.

I've PMed some info.

Personally, I think it's too good an area to rush like that.

I'd be interested in knowing too. Been really keen to check this area out one of these days. Hopefully someone has some good info!

Did it reverse a couple of years back. hugel to cheyne, gell, hipogriff, missed the chimera then up over rufus to Cynthia Bay car park. Bit scrubby in places but a great walk! I hear the fire cleared a bit of scrub near chimera. camped at lake Dixon with more leeches than I've seen in my life!

Thanks nnw
"If yoou have a vehicle at Cynthis Bay'

A pedant's spelling version of yoou. Interesting use of language.

Where is this Cynthis Bay'?

Happy now?

Some the letters on this keyboard stick, hence "yoou"; sometimes I make typos, hence "Cynthis"; sometimes I'm too busy or lack the spoons to proofread properly, hence those two getting through.
Do I have to grovel, or are you prepared to settle down a little now?
