When you think about the requirements and restrictions, it pretty well has to be one of the larger Hydro lakes that isn't in an NP or major Conservation Area. Mackintosh or Pieman would be the best bet: too much of Murchison is in the Cradle-St Clair NP. Come to think of it, a fair bit of Mackintosh is in the Granite Tor reserve which might cause problems ... I thought it was supposed to be alpine, but most of that is NP or CA so no fires, no hunting, no foraging which would make for a very difficult winter.

The preoccupation with *having* to boil water is already irritating me. Granted they're (I'm assuming) downstream of Roseberry so maybe there's a slight risk of something in the main river, but all the little streams and drains would be fine unless there's literally a dead possum floating in it.

Still a little vague on the hunting specifics... wallaby and possum are fair game though live trapping only? I would have considered leg snares etc crueller/less ethical than say spearing and dispatching. Interesting to note in the end credits the DNRE regarding exemptions too.

Plimsoll is too small for ten people to be completely isolated from each other and the general public.

The shape of the shore looks more like Lake Pieman, though I can't see exactly where this would be. The parts with the dead trees look more like Lake Murchison. But the distances don't add up if both locations were used.

Me too..... and mine are very much at the lower end of the scale.

Tough gig, I don't envy them. I absolutely hate reality TV but I'm looking forward to the rest of this - I guess partly because there isn't the usual competitive beat-up and voting each other off etc. No-one knows how the other contestants are doing or how many are left.

Oh and no skimpy beach outfits!!!

There are plenty of sections of Pieman - away from the sealed road - with drowned forest. At a guess, I'd say it's in the western reaches. There are quite a few gravel roads and 4wd tracks that go into the lake at various points (recently walked a couple) but I assume the people would be dropped well away from them.

That's pretty good! I thought it'd be hard for them to all be a fair distance from a road. I wonder if they could hear trucks at times.

I’m surprised by how unprepared some of the participants seem to be.

They don’t appear to have a plan in mind of what order they’re going to do things and then spend (waste?) time on things that don’t seem urgent.

For example, some of them didn’t start setting up shelter until quite late on Day 1.
I would have thought setting up an interim shelter - good enough to get you through the first few days while you get settled in - would have been one of the first things you did when getting off the boat.

My list would probably be something like:
1. Shelter (interim)
2. Water (looks like that won’t be an issue)
3. Fire (warmth plus boiling water)
4. Explore
5. Start on gathering food
6. Find a better shelter location

Repeat for the next X months!

Without drone footage of other tasmanian locations to embellish the show, this place remain a depressing dam with dead trees sticking out of it. Luckily they have some skillful contestant, not random people crying after few hours in the bush or alpha males unable to setup a tarp. After all, Tasmania is sooo close to Antartica...

Saw a tiger snake at the end of August last year and recently saw a White Lip laying out in the rain on top of Mt Pearce

There aren't any Brown Snakes in Tassie. We have three spcies: White-lip Whip, Tiger and Copperhead, with some sub-species of those particularly on the Basss Strait islands. Good luck on catching one - most bites occur when people try to handle them.
