Re: Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Tony I suspect you are on Carruthers Peak, with the main range track snaking away ahead across the windswept feldmark towards Lake Albina. Peaks in the distance include Kosciuszko (rear centre), Rams Head Range (left of K), Muellers, part of the Abbott Ridge with Lee, Clarke, Northcote further forward (in no particular order).

Hi John,

I will have another attempt at posting this reply as I having computer gremlins with this site today.

You are correct I am standing on Curruthers peak and you are correct with all of the names of the other peaks, but I am not sure if we can see any of the Rams Head peaks, another peak that can be seen is the unamed Peak on Etheridge Ridge, that is sometimes called Rawsons peak.

your turn John

Hi Tony, yes I wasn't sure either about the named Rams Head peaks as it's a bit distant to see, although they are probably obscured. Just referring generally to the ridgeline with the rocky tops behind/east of Etheridge as the the Rams Head Range. At least I think that's what I'm looking at. Oops, forgot the unnamed peak, I sometimes refer to it as Mt Etheridge. Maybe we should petition the Geographical Names Board to give it an official name? It's easy to get to, but at approx. 2180m ranks at about 5th highest summit.

Anyway, for taking so long to respond (I went mountain bike riding before I saw the reply) here is a really easy one. Name this NSW hut (I don't think we've seen it in the game yet):

Here's another one from NSW. Name the body of water visible in the middle of the photo (if you feel like that's too easy you can also name the peaks in the background)

Dunns Swamp from the Pagoda Lookout. From left to right the mountains (in the distance) are Mt Never Never (flat topped), Mt Wilworril, Mt Midderula, Mt Kelgoola and possibly Bin Ben on the far right

Hi Tom,
Looking like:
Cudgegong River at Dunn's Swamp (above Kandos Weir)
Guess with some of the mountains; Never Never, Wilworril, Kelgoola, Mt Davis way up the back on the right (????)

Yes, that's right - Dunns Swamp from the Pagoda Lookout. From left to right the mountains (in the distance) are Mt Never Never (flat topped), Mt Wilworril, Mt Midderula and Mt Kelgoola. The one on the far right is a bit difficult - but possibly Bin Ben?

You're up.

You may know the location but do you know the nickname of the following spot:

The Bundeena to Otford Walk. I remember taking the same photo and thinking the size of the rock is quite decieving.

Can you name the track?

I reckon Vern has it. One of my favourite spots on that track. Re the nickname Michael, it's not the answer you're looking for but I always call it cheesecake rock because of the colour and symmetry of the slabs. Somewhere in my photo collection I have one of a group of Spanish girls doing handstands on it, on the lower section I think.

Yeah, I am happy to give it to Vern. I was just prodding for a bit more info. :D

As to the nickname, I have heard it being referred to as "The Iceberg". And then a few years back it got listed as a virtual geocache called "Iceberg!" Just thought I would test the waters if anyone else had heard this name, then again could just be a coincidence and I could have it all wrong.

Thanks...very generous. By the way, I have no idea what the rock is called :?

Here's the next one...the hut name will do.

Buggery from Queens Spur?

edit: No, it's too clear along the ridge. It's somewhere in that area, though. Maybe Howitt West Peak from Howitt Spur?

Bunda Cliffs is the only bit of coastline I know in Sozzie that looks at all like that, although those cliffs don't look high enough.

No where near the bight.
What fascinated me about this spot was the semi stack - completely unexpected.

Kangaroo Island? I really only know a couple of bits of Sozzie coastline and they involve beaches.
