Shoalhaven River?
Thu 19 May, 2011 5:02 pm
I think I recognise the location. The cleared land in the top right corner makes me think this could be Bowens Creek?
Thu 19 May, 2011 8:49 pm
Well spotted, michael_p. Yes, it is Bowens Creek from near the Tesselated Pavements. The cleared area is Mt Tootie. Your go.

Thanks Tom.
Free turn to anyone who wants it.

I will take a turn to keep the game moving.
What is the name of this feature in Western Australia.

Looks a bit like my mates "Bald Head", Flinders Peninsula in the Torndirrup National Park near Albany.
Fri 20 May, 2011 7:32 am
Your mate must have a hard head, Tony, because that's exactly what it is. Your turn.
Fri 20 May, 2011 8:02 am
Thanks Graham,
My mate is actually visiting the area in WA for work at the moment.
This next one is a bit different, I am in a hut in NSW, what is the hut called. As a bike rider this article caught my attention.

Well I'm a cyclist of sorts, albeit mainly a hack MTB one with a bit of road training, so I'll have a go. OK so Oppy's competitive exploits were in the 1920's and 1930's I believe. I've seen very old newspapers used as wall cladding in a few huts around KNP although I can't recall all the details on them. After a bit of research I'll have a guess and say O'Keefe's hut.

Correct John, it is O'keefes hut, my last visit was just after the new rebuilt hut opened, I spent most of my time reading the news papers, lots about Hitlers rise in Europe, loved the old car adds, unfortunately even though the hut was only opened a few weeks at that stage the news papers where already being vandalized.
Your turn John

This sort of thing makes my blood boil

. What goes through the minds of people who make an effort to visit these places just to destroy them

. IMHO this history is worth preserving.
An interesting article I found on the hut reconstruction and how these newspapers got there:
http://www.catholicwalkingclubvic.org.au/WalkerArticles/OKeefesHut.htmAnyway, next pic. I'm at a lookout in a NSW national park. What is the name and location of the lookout?

Could it be the Dorrigo National Park from the skywalk.

Hi Tony, I was getting worried that this one might be too hard, although I originally thought it would be fairly easy.
Yes, it is from from the skywalk overlooking Dorrigo National Park. You walk straight out to this point from inside the rainforest centre building, along a boardwalk above the rainforest canopy. There is a fair bit of zoom in this shot. Your turn...

Hi John,
It took me over an hour and half of searching to find that one.
This next one is in NSW, what track am I on, I expect this one to be hard, so I will give a clue, it is on a ridge.

Another clue, one end of this track joins the AAWT.
Sat 21 May, 2011 10:30 am
Looks a bit like the track going up to Chimneys Ridge from the Thredbo River Valley? That joins the AAWT; well sort of. Following an intermittent pad back towards Dead Horse Gap eventually meets it. I can't see the river, but it's narrow and snakes around a bit through there (that's if I'm even in the right area to begin with

).

Hi John,
Sorry not that part of the AAWT, further north, here is a photo the river we had just crossed, we where on our way to a central feature to that part of the park.

Odd. If I'm right I was going to post a photo from a bit further along the same track on my next go.
You're on the Grey Mare track, beyond the turn off for Valentines, climbing up to the Grey Mare Range. One of the best kept secrets of the Jagungal wilderness.
Sat 21 May, 2011 6:05 pm
Oooops. Duplicate post. How strange.

Hi NNW,
Sorry, I know where you mean but it is not Grey Mare Track, you are a lot closer than John though ( I do agree that the area that you mentioned is a best kept secret).

Climbing up the Farm Ridge track, having come down from Round Mountain?

Hi NNW,
Yes thats it, Farm Ridge track, we where on our way to O'Keefes Hut and Mt Jangungal, on th way we spent the night in Round Mountain Hut, a storm was raging and during the night a gust of wind shook the hut and so much that it shook us in our bunks and woke us up.
Your turn NNW.
Sat 21 May, 2011 7:22 pm
Quite a storm, that's a fairly well-sheltered hut. Good thing it's so solid, too - though I wouldn't have cared to have had to use the loo that night.
Hmmmm, will have to go looking . . . right , time for something a little different. This is possibly my favourite shot from the Territory, and one of my favourite places.
A famous and memorable scene was shot downstream of this point.
What was the film? Which scene was it? And how many of the three names this area has had (that I know of) can you give me . . . ?
Sun 22 May, 2011 1:36 pm
I have no idea where that is but it looks great. The lighting in the photo is brilliant.
Sun 22 May, 2011 3:16 pm
Lovely colours in your photo. I didn't see anything like that when I went to the Territory (in 1991.) I don't suppose the film was Jedda.

1. Crocodile Dundee 1.
2. When they went swimming in the waterhole.
3. Gunlom Falls, also called UDP Falls or Waterfall Creek.

Concise and about as accurate as one could ask for, although you failed to mention the crocodile grabbing the handbag (or that ridiculously uncomfortable pair of white bathers she was wearing).
The light is partly due to smoke haze. Half the country below the scarp was being burned at the time. A lovely little creek to wander up. OK, Michael, take it away.

Thanks north-north-west. Looks like a truly beautiful location. I really enjoyed my one and only trip to the NT. Really have to get back there one day.
Location: NSW.
Something a bit different. What location are we heading to?
Sun 22 May, 2011 8:08 pm
Although I haven't been there, maybe somewhere in the Gardens of Stone NP. With the coal mine towards the top. Am I close?
Sun 22 May, 2011 8:13 pm
Not Gardens of Stone, sorry Greenie.
Gardens of Stone could be close to part of the area I was in...if that make sense.
