No guesses yet, I thought this one would be easy, time for a clue, I took this photo just over a week ago in a NP south of Sydney.

I was thinking to myself when I first saw this photo that it was very Budawangsish. Stab in the dark, lets say Mt Owen with the Castle in the background.

Hi Michael,

I thought the clue would give it away, you are correct, it is Mt Owen with the Castle in the background, unfortunately the photo does not show just how spectacular the cliff lines actually are. In the past I have been to the southern tips of both Mountains, some of the best walking I have ever done, I would rate the Castle from Yadboro the best day walk I have ever done. I am planning to go back again to Monolith Valley in few weeks time before the snow shoe season starts to attempt Mt Cole again.

Your turn Michael.

Thanks Tony. The clue was a give away.

Location: NSW.

You may immediately recognise the area but I want to know is where the photo was taken from?

Sure am.

Mt Budawang has some of the best views in the whole region. Even though it was a uphill fire trail plod the 360 degree views at the top make it worth the effort (as you can see from the reclining posture of those in the photo).

Back to you.

Time for a clue, as mentioned before I am on the Main Range, I am on the western side of the range and I am on one of the highest ten peaks.

Sorry Bluegum Mic, not Mt Townsend, this should give it away as you are not far from the place, I have previously posted Mt Townsend in this game.

Hi Tony,
I'm thinking possibly the rocky tops of the Abbott Ridge. I've visited these but memory is hazy and no photos handy. Are you on Alice Rawson? Next guess would be Abbott Peak.

Hi John,

It Is Alice Rawson Peak, an easy very nice walk from Mt Townsend, unfortunately it was in cloud when we visited on that day.

Your turn.

Thanks Tony. I am hoping to visit KNP again at the end of the year. I might re-acquaint myself with some of these peaks and see if I can pick up one or two spots I haven't yet been.

Easy one from NSW. Where am I camped?

Hi John,

I am hoping to do the highest ten again this winter and again with my Bushwalking Club in December.

I am going to have a very rough guess here, Wollangambe Crater.

Hi Tony,
That's a great challenge, I've read your previous reports. I'm hoping to have a second attempt at Gungartan. Will probably only be day trips as we're staying in Jindabyne with elderly in-laws, and a nine year old nephew who wants me to take him on the Kosi summit walk.

It is Blue Mountains but not Wollangambe Crater.

Acacia Flat camp it is. While a number of blue gums are present here, the official Blue Gum Forest site adjoins it about 500m north of where I am. The original Blue Gum Forest, saved from destruction by bushwalkers in the 1930s, is just north of there again on the other side of the Grose River. Camping is no longer allowed at either of those spots, with Acacia Flat being the designated camp now. Your turn mountnman, just beating Graham to it by a narrow margin.

Graham - I don't think it will be the skyway - Mt Solitary is surrounded by thick bush - no houses or cleared land to be seen.

The look of this land makes me think Southern Highlands - Moss Vale way. But NSW is a big place...

Agree with eggs, definitely looks Southern Highlands-ish. Possibly around the Robertson/Minnamurra/Kiama region. What's thrown me is that isolated "range" in the centre. I know that area fairly well but can't picture this view in my mind right now. Places that come to mind with that type of outlook are around Barren Grounds, Carrington Falls, Belmore Falls.

Thanks michael
Google has a photo pretty close to this labelled as "from Cooks Nose" on the edge of Budderoo NP
I was expecting to see ocean at the back - but this view is south - along the coastal strip

Edit - just noticed that NSW Parks places this walk in Barren Grounds Nature Reserve - adjacent to Budderoo

eggs, Cooks Nose is in Barren Grounds Nature Reserve. I've been there a few times but can't recall this exact view. But then, memory plays tricks. I'll do some more research. Wish I had my own photos handy.

Didn't take long. Yes, that's it. I need to have a look at what that feature at the centre back is.
